Even more significant for me was that I poked my neck forward, eventually causing severe neck pain. The Alexander Technique really saved me, which is why I teach it.

		<description>I like this post quite a bit. It spells out how we can adopt our habits in innocent ways - from people we admire and spend time with. In Alexander Technique, there&#039;s a tendency to demonize habits in general. This is implied as a teacher identifies what the student should move away from - but I think that it pays off in education to spell out how it&#039;s not a particular habit that&#039;s wrong, or habit acquisition, but doing an unnecessary routine repeatedly that can become a limitation. Also, it pays off to question why train a new habit? Habits are routines that we humans train ourselves to do for many reasons. Obviously, it pays off to know these reasons.

I often wondered if there was an important time in a kid&#039;s life when they would tend to adopt the postural identity of their family - or if it&#039;s an ongoing thing? It would be a curious point of family identity to point out to your family at a gathering. ...As you told them all about the value you&#039;ve found in Alexander Technique and why go to the bother of changing the habit.

If it is an ongoing thing, then this would imply that a person would want to be careful to choose ones&#039; teachers carefully too. Because it&#039;s likely that we&#039;ll adopt a teacher&#039;s postural attitude along with the content of the actual skill we admire that we&#039;re attempting to learn.</description>
